A while back I posted about Joe Horn, the Pasadena, Texas man who shot and killed two burglars that he caught in the act of burglarizing a neighbor’s home. After seven months of debate and two weeks of grand jury deliberation, Joe Horn has been no billed… no charges will be brought. As one can imagine, the community is wee bit divided over the case. Some folks are claiming that the shooting was racially motivated or that Horn acted beyond the legal limits of reasonable force. Some folks are hailing the issue as a line drawn in the sand that crime will not be tolerated and that citizens will protect themselves and their property with deadly force when necessary. Is Joe a hero? Nope. A hero acts beyond normal response. If everyone acted like Joe, crime would drop and then we’d all be heroes. Can’t have that, now can we?
