Urban Plantation Immigration Raid

The plantation paradigm is alive and well in Houston, Texas. It used to be slaves on the cotton plantation. Now it’s illegal immigrants at the do-nut factory. Shipley Do-Nuts has been a Houston tradition for over 70 years. They have over 200 locations throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee with more on the way. Apparently, they love the plantation model. Early this morning, federal agents and sheriff’s deputies raided the Shipley dough processing facility in Houston’s North Side. 20 suspected illegal immigrants, so far, have been arrested that were either in the facility’s work area or residential area. That’s right, they’re keeping their laborers close at hand. I know it’s not illegal to provide residential facilities, but this looks bad for Shipley…
