PETA To Shut Down Baseball & NASA

Apparently, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has had enough with bird destruction. While these incidents took place in the past, PETA has decided that the lives of too many birds are, in fact, imperiled by the quest for knowledge and entertainment. As such, PETA is calling for an outright ban on all space exploration and the playing of baseball on all levels.

Ingrid Newkirk, president of PETA, had this to say: “Randy Johnson may be a pus-throwing fastballer who is now trying to hold it together in the twilight of his career. But while birds are in jeopardy, we must be vigilant. Who knows when the next phenom will obliterate an innocent pigeon? No. Baseball must stop. And NASA is not any better. How can a government funded endeavor purport to increase knowledge while cavalierly slaughtering innocent animals and then incinerate them in rocket exhaust. We fund government. We’ll stop this inhumanity.”

NSFW Boob Piercing No Go For TSA

Apparently, belly rings are not a threat to airline safety. Nipple rings are, however. At least in Texas. In another case of TSA making shit up as they go along, the woman, Mandi Hamlin, said she heard male TSA agents snickering as she took out the ring. She was scanned again and was allowed to board even though she still was wearing a belly button ring.

Sound Like a Band You’d Like?

XXX XXXXX embodies the theatrics and sound of Gwar and Marilyn Manson on acid with the nihilistic political agenda of KMFDM and Nine Inch Nails at a cock fight. It’s like watching a bunch of evil Muppets freaking out after 1 too many Frappucinos. Go here to find out who it is…

I’m Sorry Hillary Is Not a Liar

My apologies for thinking that her “mis-remembering” of landing under sniper fire was an outright lie.

Ford Motor Company is selling its Jaguar and Land Rover business to India’s Tata Motors, Ltd. in a $2.3 billion deal. Ford had paid just a little more than double that amount a few years ago. There are so many outsourcing and curry jokes that come to mind…

Texas To World Court: You Lose

While the United States has agreed to be bound by the 1963 Vienna Convention, the US Supreme Court has decided that states are not necessarily bound by those agreements. At issue is a death row inmate in Texas who is a Mexican national. He was not told that he had access to consular officials (he was told that he could remain silent and have a lawyer). He confessed to a capital offense, was convicted to death, appealed and lost. Mexico then went to the World Court and got a 2004 rulling against Texas and the US. President Bush then tried to exert his executive authority and told Texas to give the guy a new trial. Texas said nix. It went to the Supreme Court. Bush and Mexico lost. According to Chief Justice Roberts, the president may not “establish binding rules of decision that pre-empt contrary state law,” Roberts said. Neither does the treaty, by itself, require individual states to take action, he said.

Why The Gun Safety Rules Are Important

The Henry Repeating Arms Company makes some fine lever action rifles. They also, apparently have some friggin idiots working over there. I got this notice in my email box today:

URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED!!!!

We have been notified by Henry Repeating Arms that some rifles may have been shipped by them loaded with ammunition.  If you have any Henry Rifles in inventory they must be inspected to make sure they do not contain ammunition.  Also, please inspect any incoming Henry Rifles.  This does not relate to a specific model or date.  Each gun in your inventory must be checked for ammunition.
Henry Repeating Arms apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Treat every gun as if it is loaded. Really.

UPDATE: Some folks have speculated that the above is actually a hoax. They became dubious when they could not find anything about this issue at Snopes. While Snopes is an excellent resource for validating the torrent of crap one receives via the net, it is not the be-all and end-all resource. Just to further the importance of this issue, I received this warning alert from a significant firearms and sports supply distributor. By large, I’m talking five warehouses. If they are going through the effort of notifying their customers, then it’s certainly worth it to me to pass the information along.

Now, this is certainly not the first time that a weapon has been shipped with a live round fromt he manufacturer. Occassional screw-ups do happen. And that is yet another reason to treat every weapon as if it is loaded. I check every weapon as it comes in. But a notice like this would lead a person to believe that this was not some random event and that there were several firearms that escaped the factory in this condition. This would also lead one to speculate that somebody at Henry has a very sore butt at the moment.
