The Park Is Safe?

I will start this off by saying, as I often say, that criminals do not obey laws. For 25 years it has been illegal for a legally armed citizen to to have a loaded gun in a national park or wildlife refuge. This is despite state regularions providing for concealed carry for properly licensed individuals. This doesn’t stop campers getting robbed at gunpoint in parks. Or raped at gunpoint in a wildlife refuge. It just means that it’s illegal for the loaded guns to be there and that citizens cannot protect themselves from those who seek to do them harm, including the random distraught bear. There’s now news that the Interior Department may relax a 25-year ban on loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges, leaving the issue for states to decide. “Under this proposal, federal parks and wildlife refuges will mirror the state firearm laws for state parks,” said Chris Cox, the NRA’s chief lobbyist. “This is an important step in the right direction.”
