Pearls After Cake

A set of pearls once belonging to Marie Antoinette and taken to Britain by a friend for safekeeping will go on sale in December, and are expected to fetch up to $800,000. I wonder how much for her cake recipe?

Time To Flake Out

I am involved in several commercial enterprises that are deemed by many to be politically incorrect. I sell weapons (guns, knives, etc.) and I sell pipes, cigars, and tobacco. Yes, I am a self-proclaimed merchant of death. Matter of fact, because of my chosen occupations, I am not welcome to speak at the local school career days. Darn, I really look forward to those cafeteria meals. In any event, the evil tobacco enterprise is having a rather special launch today. For quite a long time, we have been working on our very own flake tobacco blends. Each one has gone through a bajillion iterations and we are finally satisfied with the results. Our Low Country brand Santee, Cooper, and Waccamaw flake tobaccos will be launched at Smokingpipes.com today. Because you read this blog, you get a sneak peek at the tins. How about that? Oh yeah, they smoke good, too!

Have You Been Beeped?

It may be a phenomenon that many in the US are unfamiliar with. Here, we have mobile phone packages that come with a metric butt load of minutes. And most people, save for those with no teenaged girls in the house, have lots of talk time to use. Not so in the rest of the world. In places where incomes are low and pre-paid minutes are the norm, it’s common practice to “beep” a call.┬áSimply put, the cell phone caller dials up the person he/she wants to chat with and then hangs up immediately. The hope is that the person receiving the call will see that they have missed a call and dial the original caller back. The cost of the call gets shifted around and the original caller doesn’t get dinged for placing a call. Pretty interesting way to work the system…
