Take Five This Weekend

1961… Jazz was being explored by middle-aged white guys wearing suits, white shirts and simple ties. Dave Brubeck’s patience was wearing thin, so he started exploring bizarre rhythm combinations. One result was this 5/4 time classic Take Five. Why don’t you take five this holiday weekend and just chill a bit?

White Cheerleaders Getting Low

Umm, I realize that this was from 2007, but really. Crossover fail.

More On Boobs

Not putting more on them because, well, less on them is always more. But since I am exploring breastages, I thought I would post a video that did more to make me appreciate the coolness of Robert Palmer than anything else. I’ve got to think, at least in my vision of the casting call, that Palmer personally interviewed each and every one of these young ladies. And as far as I can tell, there may be some push ups going on, but no coconut shells.

Making Toto Interesting

Never really cared for Toto. The concept was the idea of blending a ton of studio musician talent. The result, although indeed homogenous, was rather bland and tasteless. A mouthful of butter with no buttery goodness. This brings at least a little panache’ to one of their most boring hits…

Death By Choir

I attended the Morton Ranch Junior High school choir Pop Show & Awards event last night. My youngest daughter was performing. I normally dread these events. Unruly kids, acoustic assault, rude parents, no Scotch. The theme of the night’s music was THE 80’s. I quickly perused the list of song titles:

  • 9 to 5 (Dabney Coleman in a bondage harness…)
  • Walkin’ on Sunshine
  • Eye of The Tiger (From Rocky XXXIV, right?)
  • True Colors
  • We Got The Beat
  • River of Dreams (When Billy wasn’t weird)
  • Carry on Wayward Son (not really 80’s)
  • Mickey (they better have cheerleaders)
  • Let’s Hear It For the Boys
  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Why does Lauper get two songs?)
  • And So It Goes
  • We Belong (It’s Pat!)
  • Material Girl (1st CD I ever owned)
  • Seasons of Love

Aside from the fact that I knew the words to the songs better than the performers did and that all of the songs were sung in a register high enough to cause dogs excruciating pain, the concert was generally fun and not onerous. Just before the awards part, there was a special presentation by the choir teachers and some of the other teaching staff. Yep, they all got up in costume and did the whole Thriller scene. Assistant Choir Director, Mr. Lee, was resplendent in a latex copy of Michaels’s red and black outfit from the same video. Let’s say that Mr. Lee had done this routine before and he absolutely nailed the performance (shrieks of junior high aged-girls as proof). Okay, it wasn’t my idea of a perfect Friday evening, but it didn’t suck!

Feed The Addiction

I mad at Venomous Kate. She made mention about Blip and I am now hooked. Great. Another thing to use up what few seconds I have left in each day. I used to be addicted to Pandora for streaming music. But it got pretty old, pretty fast and was just to repetitive. Blip.fm is much mo bettah. The music is all over the place and you can amble all you like. The social networking aspect is that you can create your own DJ “channel” and inflict your own personal musical proclivities on those inclined to have a listen. I have my own channel, now. I wish you well.

Making Sense Out of Fun

Always is amazing to me that Talking Heads at least looked like they were having so much fun when they were performing. I also suspect that a two week coma-sleep followed each performance…

Least I Don’t Need To Beg or Borrow

Ladies and gentlemen… The David Lee Roth soundboard. Consider all of your spare time for 2009 officially wasted.
