Best Caliber For Whale?

One of the problems with media reporting of the use of firearms is that there are often not quite enough facts presented to support the presented conclusion. On Sunday it was reported that a California Gray Whale was injured and swimming out to sea near Neah Bay, Washington. “A preliminary report said the whale was shot with a .50-caliber machine gun.” How does one know that? Where their multiple bullet strikes indicitive of automatic fire? Or was the bullet hole just big and gruesome, leading some to believe that the gun used was a .50? And are the reporters aware of the fact that the .50 (also known as the .50 BMG) is often used in a host of non-automatic weapons, including bolt action single fire?

Whatever the case, the .50 did not kill the whale. Next time, perhaps a cruise missile?

North American Corridor?

In what will surely be seen as the ignition of renewed debate over allowing tractor trailer rigs unfettered access to highways from Mexico to Canada… A Mexico dynamite truck explosion killed 37 after colliding with another vehicle in Piedras Negras, Mexico. For those of you who are wondering, Piedras Negras sits across the border from Eagle Pass and will likely be one of the main entry points for trans-America trucking.
