Seeing Again

I work at a copule of computer screens all day. I’ve also had 6 surgical procedures on my eyes to attempt to correct a variety of maladies. The vision was getting wonky again, so I was preparing for the worst, more surgery. Nope. Not a good candidate anymore. I am, however, an excellent candidate for reading glasses! The doc tweaked the scrip for working at the computer and life is good again! Huzzah! And, boy howdy, do kids ever freak out when you fix ‘em with a stare from over the top of the glasses!

I guess I’m not the only one that thought it was ironic… white entertainers (Imus) lose their job for using racially charged words in public while black entertainers can drop the n-bomb and other “naughty words” while chasing a dollar. Prominent U.S. hip-hop executive Russell Simmons on Monday recommended eliminating the words “bitch,” “ho” and “nigger” from the recording industry, considering them “extreme curse words.” “Our internal discussions with industry leaders are not about censorship. Our discussions are about the corporate social responsibility of the industry to voluntarily show respect to African Americans and other people of color, African American women and to all women in lyrics and images,” the statement from Simmons and Chavis said on Monday. I’ll be curious to see how Sharpton and Jackson react. Good for the goose and all that.
